I'm Radioactive

Today I got a PET/CT. What is it? It's basically a CT of my whole body that detects cancer cells by using radioactive sugar. Because the cancer cells multiply faster than most cells in the body they grab the radioactive sugar faster, causing the cancerous parts of my body to "glow". This morning I went in to the imaging center and was injected with this special concoction, I waited in a room for about an hour giving the sugar time to travel throughout my body and then I was put into the PET/CT scanner for about 30min (I had to stay still the whole time). I spent about 2hours there and Keith went to Starbucks and Target to help the time go by. It turns out that I'm radioactive for 24 hours so I'm not allowed to be around the girls until tomorrow afternoon. They are spending today through tomorrow along with Keith at my mom's house. I'm staying at our apartment and using the opportunity to start packing our stuff up and to get a good night sleep but I know I'm going to miss my girls tonight.

Pray that I'm not glowing anywhere else in my body besides my neck and chest. We find out Thursday at my oncology appointment the results and what stage of cancer I'm at.

I agree with Kristen that you guys are fabulous with updates! Still praying here too...and must admit that while scary, that radioactive thing is kinda neat! :)

Hi Cara,
Wow, what a wierd process of locating the cancer cells, but it makes sense. Thanks for letting us know how we can continue praying. We know it must be hard being quarantined for being radioactive, but I'm glad that you guys are not dependent on your apartment being their only home, and Sadie can exist on formula now. I'm sure you will be using the time there by yourself to get ready for the move. You are doing a great job preparing for all the changes. Love and continued prayers....:)

Cara,
I will be praying for you! I guess I should've hugged you on Sunday, b/c it doesn't seem like I'm going to get to see you again before I head off to Texas.
I love you! Please keep me posted! I will keep you in my prayers for good news and no glowing!!! :)

Cara, I am still praying so hard for you. I'm sure this is so difficult for you. I hope that it hasn't spread. Prayers for good news on Thursday.

Hi Cara,

Anyone who has the same name as our daughter, has to be prayed for!! =0) No really, we will pray that the cancer is no where else in your body, and that the Lord would heal you of this, through the chemo, etc.

Just so you know, we are friends with Keith's parents, and go to their church, and our son Craig, had been best of friends with Keith all through their high school years.

We're praying!

In Christ!

Keith and Cara - definitely praying for you four! Also, if you are up in the Standford area for labor day week (I think you said you might get treated there?) I will be in San Jose and can help out with kids and cars and food, probably even a bed...whatever!

Thank you for updating often, it really helps!

Gosh Cara! You are a brave woman- I guess you really don't have a whole lot of choice in the matter- I talked to Jenp and she said you are ready to fight hard, its really encouraging to hear that- the Lord is so present in your attitude!
I think about you ALL the time! I miss you and can't wait to meet little Sadie Joan! and of course Tommy and I are praying!

cara, you have always been glowing to me :)

that was suppose to be cheesy and maybe make you giggle.

i miss you and the fam so much! i cant wait to see you for christmas.

you know im praying for you. and you've got to send me picture messages of the offspring and such. i dont want to miss the growing of the two of them. and everyday you tell them AUNTIE LISSA IS YOUR FAVORITE PERSON- you've gotta brainwash them. (i know they already know that im their favorite, but do it anyway)

im really excited that everyone is so helpful, it makes me happy, but also sad cuz i wish i could be there to help too! buuut we all know im off in a foreign country, overseas, in a far land called flagstaff. (by the way, you read about the hail- didnt you??! of course that happens to me!)

life is crazy but the Lord is Peace. run to Him and He will be your Comfort- like no one else can. I know you know all this. and sometimes encouraging words dont do the trick, but I know God can.

Cara I love and miss you. You are one of the strongest people I know. You will kick this in the butt, and you have an army behind you! You are so blessed, and everyone else is so so blessed to have you in their lives.

Dude call me.
