I'm a T-Bird

I now get to say, "Open your books to Page 470." Such power.The school is certainly facing challenges. Nearly all students come from poor homes, so the school provides free breakfast and lunch to all students. The test scores are low, and if they don't come up this spring, there may be some changes next year. Each week we focus on one CA state standard (this week was cause and effect) and then the students are tested on Friday. This past Friday, only 29% of my students tested at a proficient level, results that were typical for the other 7th grade English teachers as well. Definitely a reality check.
In the midst of this exhaustion, long days and late nights, too many unknown educational acronyms, I've had a deep sense of satisfaction as I realize that I am exactly in the right place. I work with an upbeat staff. My students are hilarious. I have a fulfilling job that I love. And I get to come home Friday night to my awesome girls and look forward to a weekend of family time (family time=Pizza Hut and Barbie movies). What more could I ask for?

Right smack dab in the center of God's will! Yup, the Eagle may've landed in July of sixty-nine, but i'd say the T-bird has just landed this past week!
BTW, remind me to tell you sometime of my own T-bird stories...

I am SOOOO happy for you guys!!!! Really! It makes all the difference when you know your where your sopposto be- and having a real full time job and NOT be in SCHOOL wooohoo!!!! I am so proud of you two doing what it took to get to where you are!!

Wow keith...this is so cool that you are teaching. I want to be a teacher so bad, but I feel like its so far away from my grasp right now. I'm so happy for you and I look forward to hearing more about your teaching adventures.

Hey KEITH (and Cara!)!! Great job man! You are my inspiration and I hope to make it through school and be teaching like you did...and are! Oh, and I share your thoughts on teaching power :). I told my students to stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down over and over...I claimed it was to help drill in English commands, but I have to admit I enjoyed the power trip! Great job Keith and keep up the good work! (oh, and Anna and I want to hang out with you guys next time you're in SLO).

Congrats Keith! So happy that God provided a teaching job right away and you aren't like me 2 years later still subbing! I know that God will use you to inspire those students to learn so that they come up to proficient in English!!!
